If we join a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) and it doesn???t work out can we go back to being a standalone academy?

When an academy forms or joins a MAT is ceases to exist as a separate legal entity. Academies do on occasion move from one MAT to another academy chain, usually under the direction of the DfE. However, there is no established method or legal route for an academy to leave a MAT and revert to being a standalone entity.
