If an employee is absent for between 1 and 7 days they must complete a self-certification form covering all the days on which they have been absent.
If they are absent for 8 or more consecutive days they need to provide a medical certificate signed by a medical practitioner. This includes during periods of holiday/ school closure, this is to show that they are still not fit enough to be at work during this period and would therefore continue to receive sick pay.
