It's important to explain to the employee that the purpose of making a referral to occupational health is to get specialist medical advice as a way to help the employee return to, or remain at work. You cannot force your employee to attend, but it is important to explain that a refusal to attend will mean that the school has to make decisions and plans based on the available evidence, i.e. without the benefit of medical advice. This may be to the employee's disadvantage, if the chose not to participate in any review offered. Failure to engage with occupational health support may also affect the entitlement to occupational sick pay.
